Crafting with Lovecrafts
Learning a new skill is one of the ways I’m keeping myself busy during isolation. So when Lovecrafts (link) got in touch asking whether I’d like to try to make something from their array of crafty projects, I felt it was the perfect timing to try something different.
If you didn’t know Lovecrafts is a place which is home to all things crafting – from knitting to stitching and so much more. Every month, they welcome 3 million crafters on their website, and their online community gathers 1.1 million amazing makers and counting.
For me personally I really wanted to try my hand at crocheting as I’ve heard it’s a therapeutic way of relaxing and taking some time to be quiet and focus. It is also a great way to promote slow fashion and sustainability with the handmade nature of the craft.
What I love about their site is that it’s so incredibly easy to find something to craft, that is also suitable for your ability and how much time you want to dedicate to that project.
I decided to go for the Easy Modern Storage Basket Crochet Pattern as I love how adorable these baskets look. Colour wise I went for two balls of Vanilla Cream (for the base) and then one ball of Blush Pink using the Paintbox Yarns Cotton.
The Process
To get the ball rolling (quite literally) I downloaded the helpful PDF which was full of useful tips and of course a step by step guide on how to create the basket. The designer who created this pattern (Sigoni Macaroni) had also listed links to her youtube channel with videos on how to create certain elements of it too. This I found to be particularly useful, especially as a beginner as there were definitely some areas where I needed some help with *thanks mum*. But also having a visual aide is the best way I can learn how to do things.
Overall I am so pleased with how the basket turned out and cannot wait to start on my second one, especially with that pistachio shade *insert major heart eyes*. What’s everyone’s favourite crafting activity?
