Let’s chat summer wardrobe* in isolation
June is finally upon us and the start of the summer season can fully commence. In the recent months I’ve actually been starting to get into wearing *dare I say* colourful things. I’m by no means a bright colour convert but I have to admit I have recently developed a thing for pastels and gingham.
Whenever I’m going through my current wardrobe and feeling a tad ‘meh’ about it. I find the best way to overcome this ‘meh’ moment is to have a clear-out and re-organisation sesh. In the words of Marie Kondo, ‘does this item spark joy to make you happy’. If it doesn’t it’s added to the Depop or donation pile obviously if it does we keep it!
Overhaul – key items
For me, Pinterest is my go-to place for seeking inspiration in times like these. So I had a look at my pin board (summer style specific) and then reflected on the items in my wardrobe. From there I decided to dissect it into section’s: Tops, Bottoms, Dresses and Knitwear. I’m not going to lie, I loveee to organise – especially my wardrobe. So going through every single item made me realise exactly what I don’t wear anymore. From things that never really fitted me properly in the first place to items that just weren’t ‘me’.
As I spoke about earlier that pastels and neutrals are my thing and I kind of love to colour co-ordinate my rail – just for my own viewing pleasure. But I did find items that I still loved (ahem… leopard print) that didn’t ‘fit’ with the colour palette. But instead of removing them completely, I decided to store them away in my drawers so I can still wear them.
The Key Pieces
Summer in the UK can bring a whole mix of forecasts and temperatures. One day it can be sunny and 25C but the next could drop to 16C with showers. This means you’ve got to cover all areas. I know some people who decided to store away their knitwear for the summer but I personally keep it out. As there’s nothing worse than sat on the beach chilled in your summery dress, without a cosy knit to keep you warm.
Knitwear itself has become a bit of new summer trend itself with a lot of brands created knitted crop tops, like the one I’m wearing. With knit co-ord sets comprising of a bralette and cropped cardigan. This is for sure a trend I am definitely backing.
Now the ‘bardot’ neckline has been a summer season regular for the past couple of years and I don’t see it going anywhere anytime soon. I’m obsessed with the romanticism of ‘bardot’ dresses, like the one I’m wearing to ‘bardot’ tops paired with a relaxed pair of jeans. The neckline is super flattering and the pieces can easily be transitioned into other seasons.

Lucy says
I always make sure I have enough skinny jeans and sweaters in my wardrobe alongside my summer clothes because as you said, the weather can be so temperamental in the UK so you always need a backup! x
