2020 Tips for Productivity
Productivity is one of those things that is really important to me. With my job I am lucky enough to work from home, which I love and wouldn’t change for anything. But working from home can sometimes have a knock on effect on your productivity levels. If you worked in an office and needed that boost of motivation. All you need to do is look to your co-worker to get back ‘on the wagon’ of productivity. So I’ve complied a short list of tips for productivity that that you can implement in your working life this year.
Last year I actually wrote a very similar blog post (read here) and whilst those points are still valid. I wanted to define them further and offer some new ones in the process.
Batch Task
If you have a quick ‘google’ on productivity tips, a tip that comes up quite frequently is the process of ‘batch tasking’. Batch tasking is where you focus on one theme of tasks instead of a mix of tasks. By using this method you are more likely to get the tasks done and they are completed in a far more efficient manner.
Set a Timer
Setting a timer (or time limit) on a task is something that was a bit of a game changer for me, when it came to productivity. If I know that a task will take me 15 minutes then that is exactly how long I am going to spend on doing it. By no means rush a huge task. But if you’re task is super simple to complete, put a time limit on it.
Prioritise
I am an avid list maker in fact I was chatting about it on my Instagram the other day (here). There is noting more thrilling to me than sitting down at my desk at the start on a new day, with a coffee in one hand and a pen in the other. There are going to points in your list that you can easily do in minutes, e.g. replying to that email, booking a dentist appointment. The points which are mundane to do but take minutes/seconds to complete. So group those points together and get them done asap. Leaving you left with more time do complete the tasks that need it.
Turn off Social Media
Back at uni whilst I was writing my dissertation, turning off social media was huge on my productivity levels. I’ll happily admit I spend far too much time on social media ahem…Instagram. Especially when I had a to write a few thousand words for a looming deadline. On iPhone you can actually limit your app usage in the settings. Settings – Screen Time – App Limits. So if you know you’re going to be scrolling through pointless videos on Facebook instead of writing that really important report. Pop a time limit on the app and watch those words flow.
